I traveled to Timbuktu in Africa. I walked in to the center of the straw houses. I walked into the house with a book outside. I noticed a music note on the book. I stopped and listened to the wind. I didn’t hear wind I heard music. I walked inside the house and saw a griot playing a drum.
I was about to tell the griot what an honor it was to meet him when a little girl walked up and said, “That is my book kind sir.” My first thought was “super wow!!” J I stood in awe as the little kid went back to her group. I looked like buffoon now. I looked around and couldn’t find the griot. I walked out and saw the griot walk into another house. I walked in and the elder told me he wanted me to write him a song.
I stomped out in disgust. I took off to a tree. Do I look like Paul Simon? Well we do have good looks, nice teeth, and a great voice, but I am not a song writer. I thought good thought thoughts, "don't be hostile. I started to write my song. At first I started with a Waka Waka This Time for Africa, but then I thought of doing a prayer song. Then I got the perfect idea. This is a “repeat after me” song.
It’s a brand new day
It’s a brand new day
You can feel the heat of the mid time day
You can feel the heat of the mid time day
It’s a new dawn
It’s a new dawn
The pressure is on
The pressure is on
You should do your chores
You should do your chores
Don’t give your grand ma any sores
Don’t give your grand ma any sores
I thought maybe I am a song writer. I sang the song a million and one times. Then I traveled back to New York. I wanted to keep writing songs so I formed a new band the Great Grinning Griot (TGGG).We made little money but it was worth it because we had a lot of fun.
Your song is cool.
